As someone who takes barbecue seriously, I don’t throw around “best” very often. I’ve had a lot of great BBQ in Texas and the Carolinas, and honestly, I didn’t expect to find something in Chicago that could hang with it. Green Street Smoked Meats absolutely does. The brisket is the real deal — beautifully smoked, incredibly tender, with that deep smoke flavor and bark you’re looking for. The kind of brisket where you take the first bite and immediately stop talking for a minute. The rest of the smoked meats and sides hold their own, too. But what really makes Green Street special is the whole experience. The atmosphere is killer — industrial, laid-back, energetic, and exactly the kind of place where you want to grab a beer, sit down with a tray of BBQ, and take your time. The communal tables and West Loop setting give it a vibe that feels uniquely Chicago. I’ve had BBQ all over the country, and I can honestly say this is some of the best smoked meat I’ve had outside of Texas or the Carolinas. If you’re a BBQ person, put Green Street on the list. If you’re a brisket person, don’t just put it on the list — go.
Had a great experience at Green Street Smoked Meats! The pork ribs were delicious with a nice touch of sweetness that balanced the smoky flavor perfectly. The brisket was one of the highlights — the fat-to-meat ratio was just right, making it tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The chicken was surprisingly my favorite — incredibly tender and cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of pinkness while still being moist and flavorful. Every meat was prepared with great attention to detail. Definitely a spot worth visiting for anyone who loves good barbecue!
Had the prime brisket and pork belly add half a pound each plus macaroni and cheese and banana pudding. The brisket was some of the best I've ever eaten it was better than the prize-winning Memphis in May BBQ winner called Gettin Basted. Staff were friendly in chatty while preparing the meats and sides. Nice outdoor seating area that served multiple restaurants. Highly recommend!
This place delivers an amazing experience every time. I have visited three times now, and on every occasion the staff have impressed me with their knowledge, professionalism, and genuine friendliness. They go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome, creating an atmosphere that is both fun and comfortable. The food is consistently excellent, with every dish full of flavor and prepared with care. The brisket is especially fantastic and is something I would highly recommend trying. Between the outstanding food and the exceptional service, it is easy to see why I keep coming back. This is truly a 5-star experience and a place that knows how to make its customers feel appreciated. Thank you for another great visit.
Not too many real five stars out there to be given but GSSM hits every mark. Tried a couple meats, couple sides, couple beers, couple bourbons. Prices are very good for the location and quality of food / drinks. Serving size is spot on and deliver value for the price. Great concept for seating and the service of food and drinks. Creating separate streams for flow keeps everything streamlined and service moving. Community tables are spaced adequately and provide room for one person or twelve people. Can flip from low key alley spot to sports bar by turning on a couple discreet screens which is awesome. Don't hesitate to stop by if you like great BBQ in a low-key modern space with great beer selections.
