I tried Polish pierogi the day before, and couldn't help but miss Northern Chinese dumplings, so I found this famous Chicago dumpling place. Their dumplings were indeed excellent, but I found a hair in one, so I can only give it 3 stars… Cucumber, Egg, and Shrimp Dumplings: I chose steamed dumplings. The skins were incredibly thin, delicate, and refreshing. The filling was similar; the cucumber had only a refreshing and subtle fragrance, without any overcooked smell; the eggy aroma complemented the umami of the shrimp perfectly, and the sesame oil was rich and prominent. And they had plenty of juice inside. Except for being slightly small, everything was very similar to the steamed dumplings I've had in Northeast China. Lamb and Coriander Dumplings: I chose pan-fried dumplings. They were also very juicy, but the crispy bottom wasn't very pronounced. The lamb flavor wasn't very strong, largely masked by the cilantro. Without vinegar, they became quite oily towards the end.

First time in Chicago and had to go to Chinatown for dumplings! My girlfriend and I put ourselves on the waitlist around 1:30PM on a Sat, ended up being a 75 min wait. We ordered the cucumber salad, lamb & coriander dumplings steamed, and the wagyu & coriander dumplings fried. Everything was delicious! The skin was thin and filling was flavorful. I was a bit confused why they don't give you spoons since there's so much juice inside the dumpling. Once you bite into it, all the juice spills out. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Staff was friendly and efficient. Would recommend if you're in the mood for some dumplings!

Really enjoyed this place! These are soup dumplings and they have a quite a few flavors. They also can cook them a few different eays to give you a different texture. Everything is handmade so it is a bit on the pricey side. The teas they have are wonderful. Just keep in mind they bring you a whole pot and it really is meant to to share. I drank the thing to myself and had to refill my tiny cup about 20 times. Swrvice was pretty good. Atmosphere is very cramped and busy, there isnt much space. Likely need to do reservations unless you get lucky. We only had to wait about 10 minutes, but by the time we were done there was a long line.

It was my first time trying Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings in Chinatown, and overall it was a mixed experience. We ordered two types of dumplings — shrimp with egg and leek, and lamb with coriander — along with cucumber salad, wood ear mushroom salad, and chicken wings. I want to start by saying the service was excellent. Our server was incredibly polite, patient, and helpful, which really made a positive impression and added to the overall experience. Another thing that I truly appreciated was that they had halal option for dumplings, which is very customer oriented and thoughtful for a different type of clientele. As for the food, it was just okay. Everything was decent, but nothing stood out or gave that “wow, this is delicious” feeling I was hoping for. The dumplings were fine, but not particularly memorable, and the sides were pretty average as well. One thing that stood out in a less positive way was the portion size — they felt quite small for the price. Considering the cost, I expected either larger portions or more impressive flavors. Overall, it’s a nice place with great service, but the food didn’t quite live up to expectations for me.

QXY Dumplings was really good! We got the fried lamb and coriander dumplings and they were super solid, crispy, flavorful, and really tasty. But honestly the grilled lamb skewers were the star for me. They were insanely good. Like just thinking about the flavor makes my mouth water. They had the perfect bbq flavor, spicy, smoky, and packed with cumin. I liked them even more than the dumplings. Service was friendly and the place had a bright, lively vibe. When you get there, you can add yourself to the waitlist on the iPad in the restaurant. It took us about 30 minutes for a party of 2, so we just walked around Chinatown and got a quick snack while we waited. Next time I’d probably try different dumplings, but I’d definitely get the lamb skewers again. Everyone should get their own serving of the lamb skewers because they’re just so good you won’t wanna split them.
