Momento Cantina

The absolute highlight of my Chicago trip. We stumbled upon this gem Friday afternoon while walking toward some unremarkable place. The poster in the window said “tacos and fútbol. Yes, we said fútbol” and we walked right in. There are two sections: casual self-service taqueria and more upscale full-service cantina. We tried both and even though the menu is different, both are killer, depending on what you’re looking for. Their salsas are to die for and so are the house chips with beans that are complimentary. We tried most of the tacos on the menu, they were all phenomenal! I’m in the food industry and hard to please when it comes to restaurants, but I would go to that place over and over again. The service was also incredible. We loved the first time in the cantina so much that we had to stop by on the way to the airport the next day. We did taqueria because it was faster and easier (again, same amazing food). I decided to get a bottle of house salsa and was blown away when Lauren (one of the staff) brought a bottle. It was a legit GLASS bottle that looked like a fancy tequila. Only then I realized it wasn’t the smartest idea because the bottle is 7 oz and I only had carry-on with me… I couldn’t stand the idea of parting with the salsa (and the bottle), so Lauren was came up with an idea to split the salsa between 2 oz containers and cling-wrap them so I can take it on the plane!! She was so lovely and helpful, she made my day, I would come back just for her! Highly recommend to anyone for any occasion!
They sat us fast and served us quick. The salsas were lacking either to little or to oily. The fish taco was phenomenal one of the best I've had. The other tacos were good not great. In particular I would avoid the pastor.
Tapas style. Small bites. Very small Portions. Ribeye tacos are thin as paper. Ceviche Pescado was good. Fish Quesobirria tacos were good but very, very little filing. Nice ambience. Excellent service!
I decided to go here for my birthday and I was not disappointed! The food was amazing and I loved my birthday cake. Amber was my waitress and she was such a sweetheart. She was working hard and I thank you for being so sweet. I hope she had a great shift because they had her doing more than she should've.
This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared, with attention paid to both presentation and flavor. The meal starts off strong with complimentary chips, refried beans, and three different sauces that are all worth trying. It's clear that a lot of care goes into every detail of the dining experience. The location is convenient and makes for a great spot to enjoy excellent food and drinks. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the portions were filling enough that I did not even have room to try the desserts, which looked tempting. That just gives me another reason to come back. I will definitely be returning for another visit.
