Calumet Fisheries is the best smoked seafood I’ve ever had. We ordered the salmon and the sturgeon. Both were incredible simple, perfectly done, full of flavor. It’s remarkable how something so straightforward can taste this good. We’ll definitely be back, and it’s well worth the drive and can’t wait try everything on menu! One last thing is that CASH ONLY!
Came in on a Friday afternoon and it was really packed in this small restaurant but when you try the delicious seafood you will know why. This place is cash only but they have ATM machines inside and a sit down area right outside the restaurant by the bridge. This restaurant is a historical staple in Chicago and plenty of famous people came here to order. I ended up getting the smoked Salmon and shrimp. They also sell fried seafood as well. The employees here are very nice and professional serving customers. Overall great food and environment plus it’s worth the trip to check out.
Calumet Fisheries is one of my favorite stops whenever I'm in Chicago. The smoked fish is the reason to come, and when they have your favorites in stock, it's hard to beat. I've enjoyed everything from the smoked salmon to the shrimp, and the quality is consistently good. A couple things to know before you go: they're cash only, and availability can be hit or miss depending on what has sold out that day. If you're coming for something specific, it may be worth calling ahead. The service has always been excellent...friendly, efficient, and helpful with recommendations. As for the atmosphere, there really isn't much of one. It's more of a no-frills fish shack than a destination dining experience, but that's part of its charm. If you're a fan of smoked seafood, this place is definitely worth the stop. Just bring cash and an appetite. Food: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 1/5 Some places are fancy. When it comes to seafood in the City of Chicago this one right here is a really nice hidden gem on the southeast side of Chicago right off the calumet river. They are known for their delicious smoke salmon and fried seafood. It’s a very small shack but the inside has plenty of pictures and even some old newspapers articles of the place. The staff here is very nice and helpful assisting customers. The wait was not bad at all. They even have tables outside where you can eat and look at the river and nice scenery of the skyway bridge. Overall great experience and must check out for some delicious seafood especially the smoked fish. Keep in mind that this place is cash only and they have a ATM machine inside as well.
Busy little restaurant with DECADENT fish nuggets! The breaded crumb outer layer was crunchy and the fish inside was flakey melt-in-your-mouth. I thought I didn’t have cash for the cash only restaurant but luckily I stored a $20 away in my Ventra pass for this very occasion! SO glad I got to try this fish dinner. Cole claw was good. Fries were served FRESH. Seafood salad was creamy and tasty. The service was straight to the point and I appreciate that. I tipped with the change left over, but if I had more cash I think I’d have spent more time chilling at their outdoor seating.
