We stopped here on a whim to get out of the sun. We split an appetizer and just had waters. Food was delicious. We had the Camarones Al Sol. $30 seemed a little pricey but the view was great and the atmosphere relaxing. We did have to chase down someone to refill our waters. Overall good and would recommend just be prepared for the bill.
While waiting for our night time fireworks cruise on Lake Michigan, I couldn’t resist the idea of a meal of great seafood. Just something about being on the water. Bar Sol Mariscos is a Peruvian seafood restaurant located right on the pier by the cruise ships. They have plenty of inside seating but being on the patio with the breeze and smell of the lake really takes you where you need to be. Not my first time ordering Peruvian food so I knew what I was doing. Unlike my coworker who ordered the fish and chips. Although his food looked delicious not what I was there for. Since it was a work trip, I was not having alcohol so I opted for the raspberry icy as you can see in the picture was absolutely gorgeous and delicious. I started with with Cebiche De Corvina with a beautiful Aji Amarillo sauce (very citrusy and just what you want in a good ceviche). I love the contrast of corn style crunch was soaked corn, and the fresh seafood, red onions and cilantro made this one the most delicious bites that you can start off with. It really takes you to the sea. I will admit, though, that it was really citrusy and after a while, even my tongue started to get sore, but I just couldn’t stop eating it. For my entrée I opted for, the Pulpo Al Pastor. This this is grilled octopus in a Hilo marinade with fingerling potatoes, caramelized onions, a pineapple jam, Amorita pepper, Romasco, and a mango chimichurri. They only words I have to describe. This is delectable elegance. Everything worked perfectly together from the pepper sauce to the mango chimichurri carefully layered over the octopus and the marinade on the octopus just couldn’t get enough grilled on the outside super tender on the inside, so you know, they took really good care it’s not easy to do octopus well, especially when you’re not next to the ocean. Besides the food that atmosphere is really great. The staff took really great care of us always checking in even though they were super busy for Saturday night right before a firework show. We did not have to wait to get in. We checked in at the front got a seat right away and just enjoyed the 72° night right on Lake Michigan at the Navy pier plenty of to do plenty to see and if you haven’t been you gotta give it a shot. I will return and can’t wait to try other things on the menu! Gracias and buenos noches Bar Sol!
Amazing Latin fusion restaurant on Navy Pier. They have a wide variety of dishes along with local brews and specialty drinks. The staff is super friendly and the ambiance has a chill vibe.
We had such a lovely time at their cumbia night! They even had live music that was the cherry on top of such great vibes! No matter your age, race, or background- everybody was vibing and dancing and having a great time. The kitchen was serving $6 carne asada and veggie tacos plan to spend between $10-$15 for beer/cocktails. What a great night!
The food was really good, but the service was just ok. We asked the waiter to validate the parking ticket and were told that he did. Unfortunately, while paying to leave, we realized that it was never validated. It took the waiter forever to write/enter our order into his device. Due to a limited number of decent restaurants on Navy Pier, we selected this place. Not sure if we will return, but was worth a try.
