Upstairs at The Gwen

Upstairs at the Gwen hosted a Tipsy Tea Party bridal shower for my niece that I was throwing with her other aunts. Cecil and his team did such a great job! It was so easy, the atmosphere was perfect, and the food and drink were outstanding. We had our own room, which was perfectly contained and wonderfully appointed. We added on a Bellini Bar to the standard tea service, which was wonderful and a great hit. I stink at pictures, but have included a few from before we got going - I hope you can see how wonderful it was (though I regret I didn’t get a picture of the towers of food, with all the pastries and sandwiches/little bites). I cannot recommend this highly enough.
One of my colleagues set up a reservation here for us the day before our conference. Let me just say this was phenomenal! Our server was funny, she was kind, and she was real which are all things we appreciated! She split our check up despite originally telling us she could only do 4 transactions meanwhile we had 5 of us so it was very much appreciated. The drinks were great I had the Rasp & Chisel it was worth it. The view was beautiful as well, especially as the sun was setting. Overall this is a place I would highly recommend.
Beautiful rooftop with an amazing city view. The drinks were creative and really good, and the service was excellent. They also have outdoor heaters and provide blankets if it gets cold, which is a nice touch. The only downside was the food — it was just okay. Overall, a great place for drinks and the atmosphere.
Going back to my drafts I realized I never posted this amazing food I had on the rooftop of The Gwen in Chicago. It is quintessentially what I would imagine rooftop happy hours should be when you’re living in the city. The kind of stuff I fantasize about what life would be like living there. Beautiful views, great food, a DJ playing some great background music, fire pits, TVs, comfy seating, it had it all. It was such a perfect backdrop in place to unwind watching the sunset after a long road trip into the city. If the wind picks up or weather isn’t cooperating, they had a beautiful indoor space as well. This pasta was perfectly cooked, the shrimp dish was such a generous portion, and the cocktails were deliciously balanced. If there weren’t so many amazing spots to check out in Chicago, I would love to go back. If you’re lucky enough to live in Chicago, you might want to put this on your regular rotation.
Stayed at the Gwen which includes breakfast for both days. We also came by in the afternoon. The outdoor terrace is quite nice, the heat lamps keep the chill away. There's also a mini curling game. The views from the terrace is breathtaking especially in the evening. The staff is very accommodating, seating us with ample heat sources. There are TV's which is perfect to watch college football games. Now the food: - Pork Belly fried rice: tastes a bit weird, there's sour ingredient that tastes like kimchi. - Avocado toast: the sour cream kinda ruined it for us - American breakfast: good - Fennel sausage flatbread: very good - Chicago dog: excellent - Mulled wine: very good - Gin & tonic: good
